The eighth annual BIGGEST little Theatre New Works Festival at Brüka Theatre is a showcase for original theatre pieces featuring traditional and nontraditional performances and stage readings created by local and regional performing artists. Some of these pieces have gone on to perform in National Fringe Festivals. This small festival features nine staged readings and two performances over five days in our downtown Sub-Brüka space. Readings range from monologues to full-length productions.  Groups receive a portion of the ticket sales.

SYNOPSIS:  The online world is always looking for the latest trend— but is having a Divorce Party going to far? Piper seems to think so after her friends, Evie and Stevie make their sudden announcement. They may be the perfect couple— but how are they planning to pull off the perfect divorce? And is it all for show? Follow the friend who cares too much as she rushes in to save her friends’ marriage, before the lawyers show up with the paperwork. It’s a Cinderella Post Break-Up Tale of the 21st Century.  So join Piper and witness a new kind of party that explores relationships through heartbreak, dark humor, and interesting social commentary on the break-up perception. #DivorceParty

SYNOPSIS: Wannabe activist Abby Sessler has chained herself to an Oak Tree due to be removed the next morning in order to make room for a new parking garage. POETS OF THE CARIBBEAN

SYNOPSIS:  Our first ever Poet in Residence, Jesse, will explore aspects of poetry which have given him 'Faith In a Variety of Experience'.  During his first five years as a Reno/Sparks resident he has been a showcase performer, a Slam Poetry contestant, judge, scorekeeper, board member, a special event host, and principal photographer for The Spoken Views Collective. He has also been a community activist, a two time judge for the national competition 'Poetry Out Loud', a two time photographer for the Nevada Humanities Literary Crawl, and a two time Forte Award Winner.  This will be the fifth poetry show Jesse has hosted at Bruka Theatre and the release of his first chapbook, 'FIVE', is set to coincide with Bruka's New Works Festival.

A CRIPPLED FRIENDSHIP

SYNOPSIS:  This one-act play centers around Seth, an aspiring author with cerebral palsy, and one of his attendants, Josh.  A workshop production that deals with many aspects of being a disabled person, Evan Gadda paints Seth as an individual with feelings incredibly similar to his own.  Though Josh works for Seth, they have developed a bond that takes an odd turn during the course of the play, with revelations that could change the course of both their lives forever.

SYNOPSIS:  This one-act, two person play portrays an older couple reminiscing about their life together. It touches on the topics of raising a family, growing old and the trials of finding their place in a modern world. The dialogue is quick and peppered with repartee. There are moments of humor as well as dialogue that conveys impassioned emotions. This story is the first of a trilogy spot lighting the eternal fight of the ego. What price does a woman have to pay to be happy? A 50 something woman haunted by her childhood searches for her father through one failed relationship after another. Disguised as a business trip, the woman prepares for a date with an escort she’s hired for the evening.
