November 5 - 7, 2019 at 7:00 PM

November 9 - 10, 2019 beginning at 12:00 PM

Poetry Performance (Poet in Residence) - November 8, 2019 at 8:00 PM

Artist Reception - November 8, 2019 at 5:00-7:00 PM

The EIGHTH annual Biggest Little New Works Festival at Brüka Theatre is seeking submissions for original theatre pieces showcasing traditional and nontraditional performances, as well as original plays appropriate for readings/workshopping.  We are a small festival, to date, featuring local and regional performers and performances in our downtown Reno space. 

Submissions/Acceptance   SUBMISSION FORMS
$20 fee for consideration in the festival.   Submission will be selected based on quality, innovation and the ability to meet the mission and expectations of the theatre and the festival.  The fee is a non-refundable processing fee.  We will accept up to FIVE different plays for staged readings on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. We are also looking for directors to direct staged readings if needed. We will also accept up to four different plays/performance pieces for full performances on Saturday and Sunday night.  Shows selected/not selected will be notified by email by September 15, 2019.

Show requirements for full performance plays  (Saturday and Sunday)
Pieces must be 60 minutes or under.  Set up/Strike time is 15 minutes in 15 minutes out.  Shows should have their own Stage Manager/Cast/Crew/Director.  The cast should not exceed EIGHT people. The show should have basic light/sound cues that can be achieved in our downstairs space.  The light set up will suitable for all shows to work with without re-focus. Each show will receive one tech/dress in the space. The rest of the rehearsals should take place in an alternative space.  If the play is licensed, the performing groups must obtain and pay for licensing fees prior to the performances. Groups will receive 20 % of the door after $100. All show tickets are $10 per person admission. If you are doing a reading - please inquire if directors have submitted to work on a play-reading.  

Show requirements for readings (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday)
Pieces can be one acts to full length shows.  Saturday and Sunday will include “stage readings”.  Shows should have their own Stage Manager/Cast/Crew/Director. Play readings are in a workshop format and will have an opportunity for audience feedback after the reading. Groups will receive 20 % of the door after $100.  All tickets are $10 per person admission for performances. All readings are $5 per person admission.  

Participant Information

-Participants will have the opportunity to workshop their readings after each performance with audience discussion. 

-Full Box office services, house volunteers and a technical director to supervise your technical person or run or place an operator for the simple tech for your show.

-Volunteer opportunities to view other shows in the festival where available or ½ off tickets to other festival shows for participants.

-Inclusion in our festival program, promotion on our website and Facebook page.

LOCATION AND PARKING Brüka Theatre is located at the corner of First and Virginia Streets in downtown Reno next to the Virginia Street Bridge. We NO LONGER validate convenient parking at the Parking Gallery on First and Sierra Street.  We highly suggest parking in the Court Street parking lot across from The Pioneer Theater after 5:00 PM and weekends and walking across the new Virginia Street Bridge to Brüka.
